Spoiler alert: it was HAL! HAL did it! In all seriousness: the big reveal that took place in Extant Season 2 Episode 11 was that the computer TAALR (Threat Assessment and Algorithmic Research) referred to as 'Taylor' is the mastermind behind Lucy's mysterious "higher authority" orders. Taylor also supposedly orchestrated John Woods' and Toby Shepherds' deaths, and framed Calderon for bombing the buildings in Wichita when he realized that Calderon was angling to shut him down. Talk about a twist! While the Taylor shocker is undeniably eerily reminiscent of that other villainous computer that…

  • Arrow Season 4 Poster: Aim. Higher.

    Carissa Pavlica
    2 Sep 2015 | 12:43 pm
Aim. Higher. Not "aim higher," but two separate words. That's the message on the (motivational?) poster for Arrow Season 4. There's not a lot different on this poster from the initial photo we saw of Oliver's spiffy new costume, so we're assuming there is a lot credence in the message.  Word is we'll be seeing a happy Oliver Queen when he's called back into action upon his return to Star City, and that's going to be different. It will be nice (whether short- or long-term) to experience a hero driving his mission from a optimism instead of running away from his past. Do you have any ideas…
  • Scream Queens Super-Sized Title Sequence: Don't Close Your Eyes!

    Carissa Pavlica
    2 Sep 2015 | 11:06 am
Is there anything more you could possibly want from a super-sized main title sequence than this? For a series called Scream Queens, Ryan Murphy did exactly what was expected. He put all of his stars in jeopardy and made them SCREAM!! The best part is he still captures the comedic essence of the series with playful winks and other nods to what viewers can expect without giving anything away. The music, too, is unexpected, with a bit of a James Bond feel to it. Very fun stuff, you guys! Is it time to play the "who will survive" game yet? Does landing a spot in the title sequence…
  • Game of Thrones: Has Euron Greyjoy Been Cast?

    Carissa Pavlica
    2 Sep 2015 | 10:40 am
Internet sources (trusted, smart ones) indicate Danish actor Pilou Asbæk has been cast as Euron Greyjoy, Theon's wicked uncle on Game of Thrones Season 6. There is, apparently, a lot of story that will come as a result of this casting news, and since we're going to plow forward and theorize on what it is, you might want to cover your eyes if you're not a book reader and don't like spoilers.  You've been warned. The scenes Asbæk has been filming look like the Kingsmoot, which mean Theon's father, Balon, is dead. In the books, Euron leads the Ironborn and goes after Dany. In fact, he's…
  • Doctor Who: Alex Kingston to Return as River Song for Christmas Episode!

Covered in icicles, the TARDIS sits on a snowy village street on a Christmas Day of the future, awaiting its next adventure. That will be the status of things somewhere in the story leading to River Song meeting her husband, The Doctor, in his latest incarnation as Peter Capaldi as Alex Kingston reprises her role on Doctor Who Season 9. Stephen Moffat has written the episode, filled with humor and guest castings, surprising even Kingston, who wasn't sure she would ever make another appearance on the show. In a statement she said he was in top form, even glittering, "I met Peter for the first…

  • A New Moment in Education

    2 Sep 2015 | 10:18 pm
The annual back-to-school moment calls up recurring traditions of new moments for students: shiny new shoes and notebooks, yellow buses wending their way to scrubbed classrooms, new books and bulletin boards. But there is another kind of new moment for education that needs to be acknowledged as well: The quantity of human knowledge is exploding. According to UC- Berkeley researchers, between 1999 and 2002, there was more new knowledge created in the world than in the entire history of the world preceding. The pace of knowledge growth accelerates every year, with technology information now…

    Nick Roman

Reboots are all the rage in Hollywood these days, and that principle has shifted from movies to television, and from network TV to cable. Nickelodeon is reportedly considering rebooting Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, You Can’t Do That On Television, Victorious, and pretty much your entire childhood, at this point. Of course, plans are in such an early stage that we probably can’t even legally call them “plans” yet. But Nickelodeon executives aren’t exactly trying to hide what they’re considering. “We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were…
