Can you imagine Outlander without Claire? I don’t think anybody could, so that’s why it was so surprising what Diana Gabaldon said about how Claire wasn’t in the forefront of her mind when she started to write her epic novel series.  While doing press at this summer’s San Diego Comic Con, the author and TV series consultant explained that Claire didn’t show up in her mind until the third day of writing. “I started this as practice and decided to write historical fiction because I could look things up,” she said of beginning the first Outlander book. “It seemed easier than…

  • Gossip Girl Season 2 Episode 16 Rewatch: You've Got Yale!

    Leigh Raines
    20 Sep 2014 | 6:00 am
Racking my brain, I can't recall college early acceptance day to ever be as intense as we saw in Gossip Girl Season 2 Episode 16.  Perhaps it was because I didn't go to an elite Manhattan prep school. Or maybe it was that we still had to wait for snail mail in my day. But mostly I just think it's because we didn't have a BLAIR WALDORF. Yep, that's it. Watch Gossip Girl Season 2 Episode 16 Online That's right it was D-Day! Or Y-Day actually...Whatever you want to call it, Harold, Roman, Dorota, and a really damn cute bulldog were there to great Blair the morning of Yale early acceptance day.

I'll be honest, when Z Nation Season 1 Episode 2 ended I felt frustrated that our survivors went though all that madness for nothing. Everyone risked their lives, the damn fuel truck blew to smithereens and what do they have to show for it? Zip, zilch, nada! On a positive note, Citizen Z made a new friend up in the Arctic. He also managed to get in touch with Garnett and company to make sure the "package" was still breathing. Watch Z Nation Season 1 Episode 2 Online This week we get the first hint our weary band of survivors might be headed nowhere fast. Citizen Z makes contact with the CDC…

Florida State may have put it hopes of a repeating as national champion at risk by (eventually) suspending Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston for an important game against a major rival. But, perhaps, it achieved, even if only reluctantly, a more important victory for its female students and fans.Following a vulgar, misogynistic outburst on campus earlier this week, the redshirt sophomore superstar was sidelined for No. 1 Florida State's nationally-televised clash against No. 22 Clemson. The University initially suspended Winston for just the first half following the incident…

  • Barclay Beales sings ‘Angels’ on The X Factor UK 2014 (VIDEO)

    Nick Roman
    20 Sep 2014 | 5:37 pm
Barclay Beales sang ‘Angels’ on The X Factor UK 2014 Arena Auditions. I remember Barclay being much better than this last year. This may have been the most boring audition of the year. Actually, it may have been one of the most boring auditions to ever get through to Boot Camp. That said, I can see why the judges (well, except Cheryl) said yes. Barclay does have a look, and his voice isn’t exactly bad. His voice was fraught with nerves and hesitation, and it was probably a bad song choice, to boot. I think he has potential if he can just work on overcoming those nerves. I…
  • Fleur East sings ‘Fine China’ on The X Factor UK 2014 (VIDEO)

    20 Sep 2014 | 5:24 pm
Fleur East sang ‘Fine China’ on The X Factor UK 2014 Arena Auditions. The vocal was a bit all over the place for me at the beginning, but it became pretty damn great by the end. And whatever vocal issues existed were easily overcome, in my opinion, by the sheer amount of swagger Fleur brought to the performance. Not a lot of people are really working the stage this year, and giving that kind of performance. Maybe the performance side of things is what hurt the vocals, but I think that, with work, she can become more of a formidable artist in the competition. I can’t wait to…
  • Ben Haenow sings ‘Wild Horses’ on The X Factor UK 2014 (VIDEO)

    Nick Roman
    20 Sep 2014 | 5:16 pm
Ben Haenow sang ‘Wild Horses’ on The X Factor UK 2014 Arena Auditions. This was shaky at the start, but it got a lot better as it goes on and he becomes more confident in front of this massive crowd. That said, it isn’t perfect. Then again, it doesn’t really need to be flawless at this stage of the competition, as he’s just trying to prove he’s good enough for Boot Camp. And he definitely is. But I’m not sure he can get through to Judges’ Houses, much less Live Shows, with more performances like this. But Ben has great delivery, as not everyone…

    20 Sep 2014 | 5:08 pm
Kerrianne Covell sang ‘I Know You Won’t’ on The X Factor UK 2014 Arena Auditions. Kerrianne has a wonderful voice, but more than that, she’s charming. I was smitten from the first audition, but this is what won me over on Kerrianne as a potential contender. I think this was an absolutely terrific audition, akin to kicking down a door and announcing your own arrival. There is no reason on Earth, after this audition, that Kerrianne shouldn’t be able to go far in this competition, provided she continues to deliver at this level. And I’m completely convinced…

    20 Sep 2014 | 4:59 pm
Chloe Jasmine sang ‘Why Don’t You Do Right’ on The X Factor UK 2014 Arena Auditions. I LOVED this! Chloe has such a unique, throwback voice that fits into a very specific niche, yet it’s a niche I’m wild about. I’m not particularly sure we’re looking at a winner or anything, but I think she has the potential to make the live shows. How far she’ll go depends on how big a market there is for the kind of music she’s offering, but it’s not as if adult contemporary wouldn’t be a viable route for her. I really like Chloe and hope she…

  • AWESOME: Marvel’s DEADPOOL Will Hit Theaters In 2016 with Ryan Reynolds!

    Damen Norton
    18 Sep 2014 | 4:49 pm
Listen folks, this is the best news I’ve heard all day, year, decade, you name it.  Since I was a younger lad, my favorite comic book character has and always will be Marvel’s “Merc With A Mouth”, Deadpool.  Yes, I am a huge, huge fan.  Deadpool is unlike any other Marvel character.  He’s obviously quite deadly, with a special aptitude for a wide variety of different weapons, but he’s also kind of an asshole.  He often “breaks the fourth wall” by directly addressing the fact that he’s a comic book character, and his missions are…

Everybody loves a good crime drama.  Here in the states, we’ve bet the house on great genre series’ like Boardwalk Empire, The Wire, and The Sopranos, because who doesn’t love to root for the bad guy?  I sure as hell do.  But, the BBC has been mounting their own offensive in this department lately with compelling miniseries’ and shows like Luther, Happy Valley, and Top Of The Lake.  Americans have jumped on board with these new shows, and one of their latest is bound to make an impression with the addition of one of the biggest movie stars in the world. The…

With the Toronto International Film Festival now over, the spotlight has shifted to highlight those films that stood out above all the rest.  One of those standouts is Jason Reitman’s newest film Men, Women & Children, which has received generally positive reviews since it made it’s premiere in the Great White North.  Given the recent headlines regarding mobile and cyber safety, the film seems quite timely, and everything we’ve seen so far seems to suggest that these themes play a crucial role in the movie. The film is based on the book of the same name by author Chad…

A few years ago, Seth Grahame-Smith’s popular revisionist history/horror/action novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was made into a film, and while it was enjoyable, it still felt like it was missing something.  Obviously, taking a true and oft-told story and adding a hellish spin to it is outlandish enough, but the film seemed to lack a lot of what made the novel great.  It was shortly there-after that the popular new phenomenon transferred over to classic works of literature, with the most notable tale being a riff on Jane Austen with Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, this…

I think I may be the only person in the United States who really doesn’t like The Leftovers.  The new HBO drama series from Lost creator Damon Lindelof, in my humble opinion, is relentlessly depressing, and I think the characters are loathsome and empty.  The show follows a small New York town, reeling from the disappearance of loved ones who randomly disappeared after a rapture-like event.  There are a couple of bright spots – most notably the great Justin Theroux and the town’s sheriff, and breakout star Margaret Qualley who plays his aloof and detached daughter…
