WASHINGTON -- Efforts by Congress to approve money for what most deem a crisis along the southern border were in shambles on Thursday evening, after the Senate failed to approve its funding bill and the House was forced to rework its plans to win more Republican votes. The Senate legislation would have provided $2.7 billion to care for and help deport many of the more than 57,500 unaccompanied minors who have been apprehended crossing the border illegally since October. That was $1 billion less than President Barack Obama had requested. But the bill still lacked provisions that many…

    31 Jul 2014 | 1:07 pm
What can fans expect from The Walking Dead Season 5? We got the chance to chat with some of the cast and crew at Comic-Con late last week and here are highlights of the conversation with Steven Yeun (Glenn), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Michael Cudlitz (Abraham) and Scott Gimple (Producer and Showrunner) Gimple wanted to be the best table and immediately jumped in by spoiling the end of Breaking Bad for Lauren Cohan, who hasn't seen the series. Sadly, that was a lot more than he was willing to give us on The Walking Dead, although Gimple did say his main challenge involves time. In the…

  • Dexter Roberts has Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick Fever

    Rickey Yaneza
    31 Jul 2014 | 12:41 pm
Dexter Roberts posted on Facebook today to explain why he left the American Idol 2014 Summer Tour. He wrote that he has Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick Fever or RMSF. It took a long time for his diagnosis but he is finally taking medication. It’s really unfortunate that this happened to him at the height of his musical career. Reminds me of how illness derailed Bo Bice‘s career after Idol and he wasn’t able to recover (career-wise). From the CDC: Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) is a tickborne disease caused by the bacterium Rickettsia rickettsii. This organism is a cause of…
  • Austin Basis talks ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Creative Process, More (EXCLUSIVE)

Although J.T. Forbes is quick with the wise cracks, Austin Basis takes his job very seriously. As J.T., Austin has been a critical factor in what makes Beauty and the Beast the unique TV series that it is, owing to a portrayal that plays on both the lighter and darker aspects of a character who’s proven to be much more than a sidekick. If nothing else, it’s his ability to find that pathos underneath the character’s humor that has made Austin a favorite among the fan community. Of course, the second season of Beauty and the Beast has had its fair share of ups and downs, from…

It seems “fairy tale movies” are all the rage these days, and I think we have Disney to thank for that.  With a slew of successful fairy tale-based animated films – notably the mega-successful Oscar-winning Frozen – the genre is experiencing a boom.  In fact, the Mouse House also found success on the small screen with a live-action fairy tale yarn called Once Upon A Time, although the ratings are starting slip on that one.  They tried to stretch that success onto the big screen, with Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent, which despite being panned critically, still…

One of the benefits of appearing in a Marvel Studios film is the fact that once it happens, people become instant stars.  Take for example, Mr. Tom Hiddleston, who has appeared in three Marvel movies to date - Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and The Avengers.  Before that, he was still in the process of building a career, and now Loki has become one of the most iconic comic book movie villains of all time.  It’s also apparent that Hiddleston loves the role, as he often takes the chance to gush about his affinity for the evil trickster, and is often seen taking the time to address his…

One of the biggest surprises at this past weekend’s San Diego Comic Con was the appearance of revered filmmaker Christopher Nolan and newly-crowned Best Actor Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey, who were on hand to present a dialogue about their upcoming film, Interstellar.  It was the first time either of them had attended the convention, which is surprising especially given Nolan’s contributions to the world of comic book movies with his Batman trilogy.  They spoke about the challenges of making a sci-fi film of this magnitude, and how the scope of the film is massive.

In the years that have transpired since maligned director Michael Bay made his first film, the massively successful Will Smith/Martin Lawrence actioner Bad Boys, his reputation has grown into something of legend.  After being savaged regularly by critics who feel his work is all cosmetic with little substance, the director’s initially thick skin has worn over time, and he regularly chides those who belittle his movies via his website.  It also doesn’t help that some of the actors who have worked with him in the past have publicly chastised his behavior on set as erratic, and he…
