Viewers glimpsed something rather unusual on Survivor Season 29 Episode 2 . Following the loss of their flint, one tribe actually attempted to barter with Jeff Probst. Seriously! This sort of negotiation is certainly rare on the very long-running reality competition. Meanwhile, former Major League Baseball player/bad boy John Rocker’s controversial past threatened his future in the game. We had been wondering when, exactly, what might come out. In the cheese world, Parmesan is always a bridesmaid, never the bride. Sad but true, this great cheese is so often an afterthought. Topped on pasta and shaken onto pizza, rarely is Parmesan the main inspiration for a recipe. It's time Parmesan took the spotlight, and we found just the recipes to make that happen. We're not just talking about chicken Parm -- though that's always a classic way to honor this hard, Italian cheese -- but recipes that truly highlight the nutty, creamy flavors that make Parmesan so great.More...

    2 Oct 2014 | 2:46 am
Following a very long hiatus, South Park returned last Wednesday with the skewering of both the NFL and Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder. And ISIS, of course. How did Comedy Central possibly follow up that masterpiece? With South Park Season 18 Episode 2, an installment awesomely titled "Gluten Free Ebola." Amazingly - and, of course, depressingly - the title and the subject matter served to be more relevant than ever, considering the first case of Ebola ever in the United States was discovered on Monday. The half hour itself centered on Mr. Mackey's proselytizing about his…

It's not very often that the crimes the team investigates are personal, but when they are, they often lead back to Voight's social club. Voight grew up a kid of Chicago and the social club he has been hanging around for his entire life is more of a mob hangout than anything else. It's always been one of the things that kept us wondering about Hank's commitment to the job.  On Chicago PD Season 2 Episode 2, a week after he revealed his ties to Internal Affairs, he's getting the cold shoulder from his old friends, even when they're dropping like flies.  This episode his dealings with his…

  • You Eat It All The Time, But What Exactly IS Ranch Dressing?

    Kate Bratskeir
    2 Oct 2014 | 4:00 am
"With ranch" is the only way some will ingest their carrot sticks. The gloppy everything-edible-topper is a reliable staple at salad bars across the country. Certain palates claim it is the single addition that improves the taste of pizza. It's no wonder, then, that ranch is the most popular dressing shipped to foodservice outlets, as the NPD, a global information company, reports. The dressing is ubiquitous, but its taste is sort of hard to define. For starters, it's tangy, sweet and creamy with a bite. The Hidden Valley Food Company credits itself with patenting ranch, but you don't have to…

Nearly 83 percent of grownups in the U.S. drink coffee. Even if you've adopted this very adult habit, you may sometimes revert to your 12-year-old self when it comes to the complicated drinks on the menu. The sight of anything more foreign than "espresso" shoves you back into your self-conscious shell. You become too timid to ask the barista what the drink is made of.There will be no more of this juvenile behavior. You will, at long last, learn an Americano from a Long Black. The chart below should equip you with all the coffee drinks your caffeine-seeking brain could ever need to know. And…

WHAT WE LEARNED: ABC's PIERRE THOMAS, MIKE LEVINE and JOHN PARKINSON reported yesterday that the man who broke into the White House two weeks ago was able to make his way far into the property before being tackled in the East Room - the room where President Obama and many other presidents have made some of their most important announcements, a law enforcement official confirmed to ABC News. The development calls into question the narrative originally released by the Secret Service, which had suggested that Omar Gonzalez, 42, of Texas, had been taken into custody near the front doors of the…

  • Nashville – Recap: Baby One More Time

    Nick Roman
    1 Oct 2014 | 9:19 pm
Recap and review of Nashville – Season 3 Episode 2 – How Far Down Can I Go: I wasn’t crazy about last week’s season premiere, but tonight’s Nashville was a vast improvement over that dodgy opener. Many of the iffy personal conflicts here are related to the far more interesting issue of how those problems affect the careers of the various characters. I’ve never been all that into the personal issues for their own sake, as this show has frequently been more fascinating when it peels back the curtain on how the music industry works. “How Far Down Can I…
  • ‘Down Home With the Neelys’ Divorcing, Hated Working Together on the Food Network

    1 Oct 2014 | 7:10 pm
Pat and Gina Neely, the couple who had us salivating on the Food Network’s Down Home With the Neelys are divorcing, possibly because deep down they really hate each other. The Neelys (specifically Gina) filed divorce paperwork, effectively ending their 19-year marriage last month, which revealed they had been separated for the past two years. Credit: Food Network Which makes sense because according to sources (via TMZ) the duo have been unhappy while filming since the show began in 2009 and 11 seasons together only made things worse. Apparently they only endured because the lure of the…

Congratulations are in order for Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher! Mila reportedly gave birth to a baby girl Tuesday night at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. Reportedly, the couple arrived at around 6:00 AM on Tuesday morning, at which point Mila was taken straight to the delivery room. They arrived with no entourage or family members. Surprisingly, the press didn’t catch wind immediately either. Then again, it could just be that Cedars-Sinai is good about protecting the privacy of its patients, since it’s the go-to hospital for many celebrities. Apparently, Mila was right on schedule,…

Last week’s episode saw the elimination of Nadiya, one of the twins from The Amazing Race. FOX has pulled Utopia from its Tuesday lineup and the reality show will now air once a week on Fridays. The series will be replaced by animated sitcom encores on Tuesdays until MasterChef Junior arrives on November 4. MasterChef Junior was originally slated to replace Utopia on its 8 PM Friday slot on November 7, but no word yet on how that original scheduling will play out. (Utopia will continue to air 8 PM Friday and reruns of anything will air at 9 PM). What a mess. Utopia had 1.99 million viewers and a 0.8 rating on Tuesday this week. Looks like this show will be canceled soon. I’ve…
